Working Title Films is a British film production company based in London, the UK. The company produces both feature films and also some television productions.
Who set up WT and when?
The company was founded in 1983 by Sarah Radclyffe and Tim Bevan. It is now co-owned by Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner - a former independent film producer, after Radclyffe's departure from the company.
What was WT's first major success? How much money did they make?
Working Title's first major success was 'Four Weddings And A Funeral', starring Hugh Grant and Andie MacDowell. The film became the highest-grossing British film in cinema history at the time, with worldwide box office in excess of $245.7 million. The film also received four BAFTA wins at the 1995 BAFTA Awards. Beating films such as Forrest Gump which in comparison were expected to be front runners as they had a much larger budget of $55 and were distributed by Paramount Pictures compared to the $4.4 million budget of Four Weddings And A Funeral and their distribution being by Rank Film Distributors, a small London based company.
